• Explain the importance of promoting the development of language skills
• Define the four components of a natural language (phonology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics)
• Define the four basic modalities of language (speaking, listening, reading, writing)
• Identify stages of language development in infants and toddlers
• Identify developmentally appropriate early literacy activities in the infant/toddler classroom
